Wow! I can't believe it's been so long since I have posted here! A lot has been happening! Maggie, Mo's daughter earned her HSAs in the herding arena. Mo has had another litter of pups by CH Kurpas Hunker Down. (We kept a red male) We have been continuing to train in a variety of venues. 2009 is going to be a very busy year with competition in conformation, herding & agility. Wow! I can't believe it's been so long since I have posted here!!! A lot has happened! Maggie, Mo's daughter earned her HSAs title in the herding arena. Mo has had another litter of pups. (by CH Kurpas Hunker Down) We kept a red male from that litter. My husband and I went to Micheal Stetlers ranch for opening weekend of Dove season and to hang out, talk dog and enjoy good company with him and Gaye Warren. Mikes hospitality knows no boundaries!!!! He is one fantastic host! We had a great time hunting and then playing with cattle dogs!! Good food and great friends!!!! This awesome young red pup is Gaye's new baby "Stinger". Not only is she good looking, nut she has more herding instinct in left paw than most ACD's in Texas. You folks better look out when she makes he debut! Here are some pictures of some of Gaye's other young and upcoming ACD's. The red boy is a litter mate to my Maggie, and a Hank grandson.

He really doesn't have all that black on his lips. He was just wet from slurping around in the water trough. :-)

We also got to "play" with some of Gaye's goats. Little herding exercise. These are pictures of Maggie. It was her first time on goats. One of them was a little stubborn, but Maggie gave him the "what for".

Oops!!!! Two are getting away! Better go get them!!!!!!!!

So even after a heck of a work out, the "devil diva" still had enough energy to put up a fuss getting a pedicure. So how many people does it take to trim a cattle dog's nails? Thank you Gaye!!!!!!!

Anyway. we had a fantastic time!! Looking forward to more in November! Right Mike!?!

Houston Reliant Show

Wow! What a fun time I had. Didn't have anyone entered, just went to see old friends and make new ones. Mission accomplished. This event was very big! It's one of the shows that Animal Planet airs several times a year leading up to the National Championship. So anyway....there were quite a few ACD's there. And not just in the breed ring, but several competed in Obedience, Agility and demoed Frisbee as well. OH! And the shopping!!!!! Vendors for days with tons of goodies.

I must apologize for my terrible pictures. I am obviously NOT a photographer. I was so excited to be there, I forgot to check the settings and as you can see the results were not pretty. Oh well, better luck next time.

My daughter was not too happy. She was tired of shopping and wanted to go play with "Hank".

Fun & Games

We had a fun day today!!! I had my practice jumps set up in my yard and ended up with several neighborhood kids and multiple dogs!! Mo was so good and patient, letting those little boys " take " her all over the place. Maggie was the energizer bunny... jumping and playing her new game......Frisbee!!!!! When all was said and done, I had some very tired and content canine kids laying around this evening.

Herding Weekend!

Wow what a blast this weekend! I went to a herding trial at End Gate Ranch and took Mo & Maggie along for the herding instinct test. Both girls passed and earned their certificates. Whoohoo!!! I know, I know....Just a test, but it was fun and now off for some more serious herding training. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them back.
This was the first time I have ever seen "C" course run. It's very different from the more common A & B courses with the outruns and fetch. This was to simulate more of a shepherds real day, with the dog tending and not just fetching the livestock. Very cool!!!
Winter has been cold and not much dog stuff. Too busy with holidays, work etc. But I can smell Spring just around the corner!!!!! Our next outing is an all breed show in Wichita Falls, in two weeks. Wish us luck!

Dallas Dog Show

I went to cheer on some ACD friends a few weeks ago at a dog show at the Dallas Convention Center. Had lots of fun and got to be around lots of Cattle dogs!!!

This is Michael holding Judge and his new blue girl "Booty". She's still a pup and just learning the "dog show thing". I can't believe she's only 8 months old in this picture! I love her booty haha :-)

Whawww, the puppy babies left today!!! Michael drove up from Waco and picked them up.I miss them already!!. Thank goodness we kept one little girl. (Fiesty) Michael is awsome and I know they will be in good hands. When they get to their forever homes I am confident they will be good ones as Mike thinks a lot like me and will have screened them well. Here are a few pics of our good bye today. 5 Weeks Old!!

Well the puppies have been growing like weeds!! So many changes in the last 2 weeks. They have learned to eat puppy kibble although the weaning process is ongoing. They have been playing in and on several different surfaces and rooms, including the yard. They have been introduced to some baby sized agility obstacles.
All kinds of new toys!!!!

They have even met the CAT! The actual ruler of the house. Caddy O'Rielly thinks it's great fun to play with pups. Mom's not too thrilled though.

The puppy babies are 2 1/2 weeks old now and their eyes have been open for a few days. They are really starting to act like pups! They are wobbling around, barking, growling, trying to play and even coming to my voice when I speak to them. AHHHHHH!!!!!! The sweet smell of puppy breath!!! Here are a few pics. Enjoy!!!!! Super Dog Program

Today we start the "Super Dog Program". Developing high achievers thru early neurological stimulation. This program will start today at age 3 days and will continue until the pups are 19 days old. It is generally agreed that genetics account for about 35% of a dogs performance and that the remaining 65% is attributed to environment and training. Hopefully by performing these series of 5 exercises for a few moments daily, we will increase these pups ability to learn, perform, handle stress and remain healthy in what ever venue they end up in. Well, these are some pics of Mo's relly big tummy. She is 4 to 7 days away from whelping! Had x-rays taken a few days ago and the vet thought there are 8 or 9 pups. Poor thing she is soooo not feeling good. She is ready for these buns to be done!!!!!!

Mo is finally home! Back from a romp with a "Mr. Stud" at her breeder's kennel. Around April 3rd we will get an ultrasound done to see if she in whelp and hopefully how many puppies. Keep your fingers crossed!! Anyway, Mo has settled back in and never missed a beat. She has picked right back up on her agility and obedience training like she was never gone. We were supposed to go to herding class tonight, but I think we will put it on the back burner until maternity leave is over. It will be too difficult to keep up continuity with her missing so much. Welcome home Mo!!

PUPPIES???? Well maybe. Mo came into season and was sent back to her breeder. She has been mated with CH Duwest Stonewash Blues. He is a very nice blue male with tons of substance and type. I will post some pictures soon. I really miss Mo and can't wait 'till she comes home!!!

Besides training for the herding arena, we have been going to Agility(pre agility) class at Dallas Dog Sports. Mo is incredibly smart. A trait this breed is known for; as is the independent thinking which sometimes gets her in trouble! :-) It has been very interesting learning new techniques. I was used to Kohler methods and choke chains, but this has been all positive reinforcement .... Clicker training. All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!! For anyone that doesn't know what I'm talking about, do some research. It is absolutely amazing watching the dog's mind working, learning the commands and tasks and loving it!!! Mo is a natural. She is very athletic and appears to be catching on quickly.

Well, Mo has been doing ok in herding. Sometimes she acts like the sheep do not exist. Then the next time she wakes up and starts working. Marie says she's just learning to balance the "pressure". We got to work goats for the first time and Mo LOVED them. They move quicker and it really turned her on. The only problem was I am not that far along in my handling skills so she almost had goat for lunch! There is so much to remember. The trainer has been having me add a few voice commands to our training now and it's a little mind blowing!

Now my hubby and I are officially hard core ACD fans!!! "Mo, the legendary kid, aka Diva, aka hey I'm talking to you! Has settled in and has been having great fun teaching us how to teach an aristocratic individual lady like herself. We went to our first herding lesson last night. What a blast!!! So many neat people & dogs! There was a lot going on with action in several different pens & pastures. At first Mo was more interested in trying to greet everyone & eat sheep poo than actually paying attention, but by our 3rd & 4th turns in the pen she was engaging and actually trying to figure the game out. Quite interesting to watch just how flat a red blur can make itself when it's nipping a heel. Marie Keopke said the "light bulb" went off in her head. The dog did much better than me. I felt like a complete idiot... turn, stop, watch your sheep, get off the fence, step on the long line, don't step in the long line, go, stop, turn, push your dog out with the stick - no! not that much! Turn into your dog, no the other way, push , back off, ....... Whew! well you get the idea. Anyway, we had a super time and can hardly wait for our next lesson.I'll keep ya'll updated on our progress.

Miss 'Mo Betta" came to live with us in late November. We were actually looking for a blue male pup, but fell in love with Mo! Thank you Michael Stettler for allowing this darling diva to come be a part of our pack! Michael finished her conformation championship from the "bred by" class and now it's up to us to see what else she can do. For the time being she is getting adjusted to a house cat(which she's never seen before), three rowdy teenagers, two Labs & a Golden Retriever.
